Sapphires come in many colors but September’s color is blue. Sapphire is a type of the mineral corundum. There are also a rainbow of colors and hues of corundum. Diamond is the hardest stone and the sapphire is the second hardest stone. In Greek, a sapphire means blue. Sapphires of other colors are denoted by their color. There are yellow sapphires, violet sapphires, pink sapphires green sapphires and clear or white sapphires. The sapphire is one of the group of four most precious stones in the world. That group is diamond, emerald, ruby and sapphire.

Sapphire is thought to stimulate hope, faith, and joy and protect during journeys. It is said to be a gemstone of visionary wisdom, protection and help with destiny. Before the 18th century, peridot was considered a type of Topaz. It has been mined for approximately four thousand years and was considered the gem of the sun by the Egyptians in the early 1500 BC.
